Transnational Conversations on Criminal Law. Exploring Foundations, Methodologies and Emerging Challenges in the Criminal Justice (Dis)Order - Series of seminars

Scheduled for summer and fall 2024 is the seminar series “Transnational Conversations on Criminal Law. Exploring Foundations, Methodologies and Emerging Challenges in the Criminal Justice (Dis)Order”, organized by the research group coordinated by Alberto di Martino, professor of Criminal Law at Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies.

The events:

• "The Rule of Law after the Anthropocene" - Wednesday, June 12, at 4 p.m. in the Aula Magna Storica is scheduled the first seminar with Vincent Chiao, Professor of Criminal Law and Legal Theory at the University of Toronto.
• "Cooperation and the Retributive Sentiments" - Thursday, June 13, at 10 a.m., in the Aula Magna Storica is scheduled the second seminar with Vincent Chiao, Professor of Criminal Law and Legal Theory at the University of Toronto.

The seminar series will involve leading scholars of criminal law and legal theory of international reputation, who will cover topics ranging from the impact of artificial intelligence on the rule of law to the latest developments in environmental criminal law.

The overarching objective of the seminars is to facilitate a transnational dialogue on the evolution of criminal law. The seminars will begin in June 2024 and will feature the following speakers: Vincent Chiao of the University of Toronto, Jacob Öberg of the University of Southern Denmark, Michael Faure of Maastricht University, Alexander Sarch and Ambrose Y.K. Lee of the University of Surrey, Markus D. Dubber of the University of Toronto, Kimmo Nuotio of the University of Helsinki, and Lieselot Bisschop of the Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Each seminar will comprise two segments: an initial presentation by the guest speaker on the designated topic, followed by an open discussion involving the audience. Prior to each seminar, speakers will share relevant papers and readings, allowing attendees to prepare and contribute meaningfully to the discussions.

The meetings will be held will be held both in the Aula Magna Storica (Main Campus) and online, ensuring accessibility for all interested participants. The same Webex link will be used for all the meetings.
